Madison…After Assembly Democrats released a tax plan, Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Ways and Means, Representative John Macco (R-Ledgeview) released the following statement:
“Apparently Assembly Progressive Democrats are yearning to go back to the days when Governor Doyle would steal from the Transportation fund and tax increases would be approved in the dead of night,” said Rep. Macco. “As the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, we just held five informational hearings on our state tax code. We brought in economists, businesses, local governments, department secretaries and many people in between. Trust me, the problem WAS NOT having enough taxes on the books.”
The Assembly Democrats plan is to raise taxes in Wisconsin and get rid of tax credits that have been proven to bring companies and jobs back to Wisconsin.
“This is yet another example of Assembly Democrats just not getting it,” continued Rep. Macco. “This plan shows Wisconsinites how Democrats, if they had their way, would raise taxes on our citizens and turn their back on Wisconsin businesses. In fact, the average Wisconsin homeowner would be paying $1,700 MORE than they were in 2010 if they were still in charge.”
“Don’t get me wrong, we need to take a hard look at our tax code, but throwing out all progress we’ve made simplifying, federalizing and reducing taxes would be devastating to the Wisconsin economy. We can do better. We’re working on it.”
