Madison – On Thursday, State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette), Assembly Co-Chair of the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee, released the following statement regarding the Wisconsin Health Plans’ commitment to cover treatment for individuals suffering from addiction:
“Today, the Wisconsin Association of Health Plans distributed a letter outlining their commitment to expand prevention efforts and cover treatment opportunities for Wisconsin residents who suffer from addiction. The heroin and opioid epidemic has hit every community – both rural and urban – and I applaud the Health Plans’ initiative to expand much-needed access to treatment opportunities across the state.
“According to the Association, community-based health plans will ensure that their members suffering from opioid addiction will have access to medically-appropriate treatment options. They recognize that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all model for treatment; this multi-faceted approach will encourage treatment success and support long-term recovery.

“Efforts like this are necessary in the fight against our state’s epidemic, and I know increased access to treatment opportunities will save lives. I’m happy the Health Plans have chosen to lead the way on this issue, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact their commitment will have in our state.”
