Madison – On Tuesday, State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette) released the following statement regarding Assembly passage of a package of Special Session bills aimed at combatting drug abuse and addiction:

“The nine Special Session bills approved today will have a great impact in Wisconsin as we continue to fight the prescription opioid epidemic. We’ve focused our efforts on expanding Treatment and Diversion (TAD) programs, improving access to wide-ranging addiction medicine opportunities, and partnering with law enforcement to fight drug trafficking.

“I applaud Governor Walker for calling the Special Session on Opioid Abuse. While this legislative package will go a long way to combat addiction in our state, there is still more work to be done. I look forward to continuing a strong partnership with the medical community, law enforcement, my fellow elected officials, and recovery advocates as we continue fighting this epidemic.”

The Special Session Assembly bills approved today were recommended to Governor Walker by the Co-Chairs of the Governor’s Task Force on Opioid Abuse, Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and State Rep. John Nygren.
