State Representative John Nygren, Assembly Co-Chair of the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee, and State Representative Joe Sanfelippo, Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, released the following statement regarding the American Health Care Act:

“We are calling on Wisconsin’s Congressional delegation to amend the American Health Care Act (AHCA) released earlier this week,” said Rep. Nygren. “This amendment would correct a policy established by the Obama Administration that created a “false choice” for states looking to reform their Medicaid programs.”

“The American Health Care Act is a good first step towards achieving Republicans’ collective goal of repealing Obamacare,” added Rep. Sanfelippo. “This legislation needs to be improved by placing Wisconsin’s Medicaid program on equal footing with states that took the federal Medicaid expansion.”

“We reformed our Medicaid program by adding coverage for childless adults living in poverty and moving those above the poverty line into private coverage,” said Nygren. “We encourage our Delegation to ensure that Wisconsin is finally treated fairly in the AHCA, rather than preserving a policy established by the Obama Administration that disadvantages states like Wisconsin.”

“Wisconsin taxpayers should no longer be penalized for choosing a responsible path for our state’s Medicaid program,” said Sanfelippo.
