Madison – On Tuesday, State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette) released the following statement regarding Senate passage of a package of Special Session bills aimed at combatting drug abuse and addiction:
“The nine Special Session bills approved today will have a great impact in Wisconsin as we continue to fight the prescription opioid epidemic. We’ve focused our efforts on expanding Treatment and Diversion (TAD) programs, improving access to wide-ranging addiction medicine opportunities, and partnering with law enforcement to fight drug trafficking.
“I applaud Governor Walker for calling the Special Session on Opioid Abuse. Because of Wisconsin’s efforts over the past few years, many other states look to us as a model for how to fight drug abuse and addiction. We have come a long way, but we’re far from taking a victory lap. There’s still a lot more work to be done. That said, I look forward to continuing a strong partnership with the medical community, law enforcement, my fellow elected officials, and recovery advocates as we continue fighting this epidemic.”
The Special Session bills approved today were recommended to Governor Walker by the Co-Chairs of the Governor’s Task Force on Opioid Abuse, Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and State Rep. John Nygren.
