MADISON, WI. – Today, Representative Tod Ohnstad (D-Kenosha) called on
Speaker Paul Ryan to oppose President Trump’s ill-advised decision to
rescind Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). In a letter to
Speaker Ryan, Rep. Ohnstad calls on Speaker Ryan and Congress to act to
restore DACA.
“By rescinding DACA, the Trump Administration is harming thousands of
families by blaming children and young immigrants for actions they had
no control over,” said Rep. Ohnstad in the letter”. In Wisconsin alone,
over 5,000 migrant workers contribute to the workforce.
“Kenosha is home to one of the fastest growing immigrant communities
in Wisconsin. I have had the opportunity to meet numerous members of
the city’s immigrant community and have witnessed their contribution to
the city’s workforce and cultural diversity,” Rep. Ohnstad added.
Kenosha’s immigrant economy will suffer greatly if DACA is rescinded.
Rep. Ohnstad concluded, “It is important to pass comprehensive
immigration reform to fix a system hurting all Americans.”
