Madison – Representative Petryk (R-Eleva) released the following statement on
Governor Walker’s biennial budget address:
“This afternoon, Governor Walker gave his forth biennial budget address to the
Legislature with many positive initiatives that would greatly benefit the wants and needs
of the people of the 93rd Assembly District.
The Governor made clear that education continues to be our number one priority by
proposing an additional $649 million in funding for K-12 education, making a total
investment of $11.5 billion for our schools, the largest increase in state history.
The Governor also proposed the following: an increase of $15 million in Broadband
Expansion Grant funding, for a total broadband investment of $40.5 million; increasing
funding for technical colleges by $10 million while freezing tuition for technical college
students, doubling our investment in Fabrication Labs for a total of $1 million; an
increase of over $100 million in UW funding; and providing $39 million to eliminate the
long-term care waiting lists for 2,200 children with disabilities.
These increased investments along with expanding opportunities for worker training and
apprenticeships, work opportunities for people with disabilities, and reduction of taxes
and burdensome regulations give me reason to be very optimistic that this budget will be
positive for the people of Western Wisconsin”.
