MADISON – In response to the recent floods that have devastated much of western Wisconsin, a budget motion drafted by Representative Treig Pronschinske (Mondovi) has gained momentum. On Monday, Governor Scott Walker and leadership of the Assembly Republican caucus announced their support for Rep. Pronschinske budget request to provide $14.6 million to the city of Arcadia to create and reinforce infrastructure to deter future flooding.

“This is a positive step forward in our efforts to protect the community from future flooding,” said Rep. Pronschinske. “I appreciate that the Governor and legislative leaders understand the importance of this project to our area and the economic future of this region.”

Governor Walker wrote to the legislative leaders urging support of the budget motion that is under consideration in the Joint Committee on Finance.  Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) and Rep. John Nygren (R-Marinette) responded by publically declaring their support for the project.

“The city of Arcadia, its employers and homeowners have been a great asset to the area and the state, creating jobs and positively impacting western Wisconsin,” said Rep. Pronschinske.

The budget motion will need the approval by the Joint Committee on Finance and the full legislature in order for the project to move forward.

“As the city continues to grow and prosper, so should its infrastructure,” said Rep. Pronschinske.  “I urge the Joint Finance Committee to move quickly to ensure Arcadia residents and businesses are protected.”
