Madison, Wisconsin – State Representative Jessie Rodriguez (R-Oak Creek), released the following statement after Gov. Walker gave final approval to the 2017-2019 state budget:

“Overall, this was a great budget for my district and the state of Wisconsin. This budget includes additional dollars for our school districts, more funding for workforce training and increased funding for local roads.

“While this budget has many positive aspects, I am disappointed with the veto that removed the low revenue adjustment piece from the education portion of the budget. I strongly supported this provision that would have allowed low revenue school districts, like South Milwaukee and Oak Creek-Franklin, to address the current inequity in our K-12 education funding system. My colleagues and I will continue searching for a solution to this issue.

“Nevertheless, this is a budget I still proudly support. With more than $639 million in funding for K-12 education and taxes that are lower than in 2014, this budget continues moving Wisconsin in the right direction. This week, Republicans proved once again that we can fund our priorities by being fiscally responsible and protecting taxpayers.”
