Madison, Wisconsin — Representative Patrick Snyder (Schofield) released the following statement regarding Governor Walker’s passage of the 2017-19 state budget:

“The budget signed by Governor Walker today strongly invests in the future of our children while holding the line on taxes for our hard-working families,” said Snyder. “I am proud to say that many of the provisions included in this two-year spending plan will have a direct impact on the citizens of the 85thAssembly District.”

One of the key victories of this biennial budget was the historically-large investment to K-12 education.

“Coming into office, the most important promise I made was to be an advocate for the children of our state,” said Snyder. “This budget invests in our schools by putting more money into the classroom to successfully ensure every child is given the tools they need to succeed.”

Additionally, there are a number of provisions included in the bill that address the needs of Marathon County.

  • $100,000 grant to Marathon County Development Corporation for minority-owned businesses;
  • Additional $500,000 in funding for Treatment Alternatives and Diversion programs; funding that can be used to establish drug courts;
  • Increase of $1.5 million for the creation and expansion of physician residency training programs.

“I applaud the Governor for accepting the proposals that are of great benefit to the people of Marathon County,” said Snyder. “These investments will continue our commitment to make our community the best it can be.”

Governor Walker signed the 2017-19 budget bill at Tullar Elementary School in Neenah, WI.
