Joint Finance Committee supports Governor’s recommendation to fund 8-bed youth facility
MADISON –Representative Patrick Snyder (Schofield) applauded today’s Joint Finance Committee vote to fund a youth crisis stabilization center. The facility will improve outcomes of children in crisis without having to take them far away from their homes.
“This is a big step in the right direction for mental health services, especially for the most vulnerable in society- our children,” said Snyder. “This facility will allow for early intervention for those going through a mental health crisis. The goal is to de-escalate these situations and get children back into their everyday routines in their own homes.”
The Governor included funding for an 8-bed youth crisis stabilization center in his budget proposal. The facility will either prevent or de-escalate mental health crises and avoid restrictive institutional admissions.
“Good mental health is essential to the overall wellbeing of our children. I am very supportive of the efforts taken by the Governor and the budget committee to improve access to mental health services for children across Wisconsin.”
Funding to establish an 8-bed youth crisis stabilization center will be awarded through a request for proposal (RFP) process. Interested providers will submit their proposals to the Department of Health Services.
