MADISON- Last night, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed the 2017-19 Biennial Budget, more than two months past the statutory deadline. State Rep. Mark Spreitzer (D-Beloit) joined all Democrats and five Republicans voting against the budget. Following the vote, Rep. Mark Spreitzer (D–Beloit) issued the following statement:
“The Biennial Budget approved by the Republican-controlled State Assembly rigs our economy against Wisconsin students, workers, families, and communities. Unfortunately, this budget is a re-election ploy by Governor Walker that fails to create sustainable solutions for Wisconsin.
“Democrats are fighting for Wisconsin families and communities, and fighting to make sure the system is fair. Last night, Democrats fought for fairness and opportunity, offering numerous common-sense proposals that received no support from Republicans. Democrats fought for tax fairness for all Wisconsin workers, for an education plan that would empower local officials and parents, and to end the dangerous cycle of continued borrowing and delays for our roads and bridges.
“After this budget is signed, Legislative Democrats will continue to fight for fairness and opportunity. We will continue to fight for communities across Wisconsin. We’ll continue this fight until all Wisconsin families have a chance to achieve the American dream.”
