MADISON – Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) released the following statement following the Committee on Jobs and the Economy’s vote to advance Special Session Assembly Bill 1, which passed along party lines with a 8-5 vote:

“I applaud the work that committee chairman Neylon has done to ensure we’ve reached the best deal for Wisconsin taxpayers. His leadership during the committee process has made this bill stronger and stands as an example of how the legislative process should work. Drawing on feedback from a public hearing that lasted over 10 hours, committee members accepted improvements from both sides of the aisle.

“As amended, the bill now includes even stronger environmental oversight, new investments in worker training, and additional flexibilities for local governments.

“Personally, I’m frustrated and disappointed that our Democrat colleagues could not put politics aside in order to help create 13,000 jobs, strengthen our economy, and put Wisconsin on the map as a leader in technology.

“I look forward to taking this legislation before the full Assembly on Thursday and advancing this transformational deal for Wisconsin’s economy.”
