MADISON- Today, Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison), Representative Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan), and Senator LaTonya Johnson (D-Milwaukee) released a video promoting the proposed Healthy Babies, Working Mothers Act (AB 193/SB 147). The video features Wisconsin women sharing their stories of returning to work while breastfeeding.

“We heard from women across the state about their experiences breastfeeding and returning to the workplace,” said Sen. Johnson. “Some shared positive stories, while others experienced significant obstacles.”

The video highlights the importance of breastfeeding accommodations in the workplace and the need for the Healthy Babies, Working Mothers Act, which would ensure working women have workplace accommodations to pump breast milk at work. The bill also ensures new mothers can maintain their healthcare coverage by counting any unpaid breaks for the purpose of breastfeeding or expressing milk toward any minimum hours required for health care eligibility.

“We know that breastfeeding leads to healthy outcomes for babies and mothers,” said Rep. Ballweg. “Breastfeeding accommodations in the workplace make it possible for working mothers to make this healthy choice.”

“This is why we have introduced the Healthy Babies, Working Mothers Act,” said Rep. Subeck. “The bill would ensure new mothers can make the healthy decision to breastfeed their babies, while providing economic security for their families.”
