Gutting fair wages through prevailing wage repeal hurts Wisconsin workers

MADISON – Earlier today, the Wisconsin Contractor Coalition announced their review of Wisconsin’s prevailing wage laws that demonstrates the overwhelming negative impacts that the GOP’s initial repeal has had on Wisconsin’s economy and workers.  Since the initial prevailing wage repeal in the beginning of January 2016, there has been a 53 percent increase in contracts being awarded and outsourced to out-of-state companies.  The Wisconsin GOP is now seriously considering expanding this prevailing wage repeal to state projects.

Rep. Chris Taylor (D-Madison) released the following statement:

“The Wisconsin GOP agenda is simple: 1) outsource jobs; 2) drive down wages for Wisconsin’s working families and 3) more tax cuts for the rich.  No matter if you’re a Democrat or a Republican, keeping and creating family supporting Wisconsin jobs should be a top priority for all of us. Instead, Wisconsin Republicans are focused on repealing family supporting wages and replacing Wisconsin’s workers in favor of out-of-state businesses and workers.  We should all be opposed to that.”
