MADISON – On Friday, the Co-Chairs of the state’s budget-writing Joint Committee on Finance, State Senator Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) and State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette), issued the following statement regarding the non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau’s most recent general fund tax revenue estimates:

“Thanks to our conservative fiscal reforms, Wisconsin remains on solid economic footing. The latest revenue estimates prove we are on the right track. Those estimates are the foundation of the budget we passed this week.

Our budget invests in our children and doesn’t leave them with the bill. We are making a historic investment in public education and borrowing less than any budget in more than a decade.

The budget we just passed will continue those reforms and help shield taxpayers from any economic uncertainty. With $280 million in our rainy day fund, an additional $14 million in increased revenue, and setting aside nearly $200 million in ending balance of the budget, our careful budgeting will help ensure our great state continues to prosper and succeed.”
