Madison, WI – Today, Governor Scott Walker announced his biennial budget request, Senator Duey Stroebel (R-Cedarburg) issued the following response:

Wisconsin needs to continue to lead our country in passing strong reforms. When I ran for the Senate, I campaigned on repealing the prevailing wage. I am thankful for Governor Walker’s full repeal of the antiquated law.

For decades, schools have increased spending without implementing significant efficiencies. It is unfortunate several school districts have not utilized the tools passed under Act 10 and still bemoan poverty. This budget provides increased funding for Wisconsin students and ensures full compliance with previously passed efficiency reforms.

I further applaud Governor Walker on his commitment to the middle class through property tax relief, income tax cuts, and tuition cuts. The Governor’s income tax reduction moves Wisconsin further away from our previous reputation of a high tax state.

Governor Walker has kept his promise to focus on safety and maintenance in the transportation fund without raising taxes.

This budget is good for Wisconsin and includes many reforms that are significant for taxpayers. As the Governor mentioned, we will see a “Reform Dividend.”
