(MADISON) – On Saturday, a spokesperson for Sheriff David Clarke stated that the Sheriff has “rescinded his acceptance” for a position at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Following the news, Senator Lena Taylor (D – Milwaukee) offered the following statement:

“Sheriff Clarke did the right thing in withdrawing his acceptance as an Assistant Secretary in Homeland Security’s Office of Partnership and Engagement. It was absurd for the Trump Administration to have offered Clarke any position in the first place. His divisive leadership style, that includes bullying and threatening to “grab” or knock out those who question him, has only worsened since his mancrush developed for Donald Trump.

Sheriff Clarke has let a lot of people down, with his unchecked unprofessionalism and partisan vitriol. Maybe he will do the right thing, again, and withdraw from public service altogether. At least until he realizes that his allegiance is not to President Trump, but to the community and country that elected them both.”
