MADISON – State Senator Tom Tiffany (R-Hazelhurst) released the following statement following the Senate’s passage of SB30/AB64, also known as the 2017-19 biennial state budget:
“It has been a pleasure to work with my colleagues on the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) to develop the 2017-19 biennial state budget. This budget provides much needed tax relief for homeowners and small business owners by eliminating three taxes from our code, while continuing to invest in our education system across the state.
“The 2017-19 budget ensures that Wisconsinites receive the best return on the investment of their hard-earned tax dollars. Below are a few highlights that I am excited to share:
*Elimination of the state property tax, providing relief to all homeowners.
*Partial repeal of the personal property tax, allowing small business owners to exclude non-manufacturing machinery, tools, and patterns from their tax bill.
*Return of all MFL closed acreage dollars to local units of government, resulting in over $10 million going to local governments.
*Allocation of $639 million in state aid to school districts, directing more money to classrooms across Wisconsin.
*Dedication of the largest annual increase of General Transportation Aids (GTA) since 2000, giving municipalities and counties more revenue to fund local road projects.
“I am pleased to vote in favor of a budget that guarantees relief for Wisconsin taxpayers and invests significant dollars ensuring that our children receive the best educational and professional opportunities possible.”
