WASHINGTON—House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) issued the following statement after hosting a bipartisan meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi:
“I appreciate Prime Minister Al-Abadi making a visit to the Capitol today. During this important meeting, we pledged to redouble our efforts to defeat ISIS while also supporting the political work necessary for stable post-ISIS Iraq. We also discussed the need to strengthen the capabilities and sovereignty of the Iraqi security services as they continue to confront grave threats. The House is committed to working with Prime Minister Al-Abadi to advance the safety and security of our nations.”
