Eau Claire, WI – In continued service to his country, Colonel Steve Toft today announced his intention to run for the Republican nomination for Congress in Wisconsin’s 3rd District challenging career politician and long-term incumbent Ron Kind.

A decorated Army Officer, Steve Toft began his military career as a Private and eventually was promoted to the rank of Colonel.  Toft served in combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, and his final assignment was Post Commander at Fort Sam Houston, Joint Base San Antonio.  A decorated officer, Toft was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal. Steve is Airborne, Air Assault and Expert Field Medical Badge qualified.

“For more than 30 years, I have served my country in combat zones across the globe. Now it is time for me to serve my country once again. I am running for Congress to take on the red tape, burdensome regulations and bloated bureaucracy that is stifling our great country. I am a patriot and a proven leader who loves our country more than anything.  I believe through hard work and dedication we can change Washington and get Congress to work for us,” said Toft.

In 2016, the citizens of the 3rd district voted for President Donald Trump by a healthy margin over Hillary Clinton. While Kind ran unopposed the people made their desire for change clear.

“I’m not a politician and I don’t want to become one.  I’m a humble Wisconsin soldier who wants to continue to serve the people of the 3rdDistrict. The more I hear from the great people of West and Central Wisconsin it is clear that status quo is no longer working. We need leaders in Washington that will fight for the people and not special interests. Career politicians like Ron Kind are part of the problem, not the solution,” said Toft.

Toft grew up on a farm in West Central Wisconsin, graduated from UW-Eau Claire and returned to Osseo after retirement. He lives there with his wife of 28 years Carla, together they have two grown children. His wife Carla also retired with rank of Colonel.
