Grothman Demands Disclosure of Sexual Harassment Settlements Paid with
Taxpayer Money
(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) today sent a letter asking the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Committee on House Administration to disclose the members of Congress who have settled sexual harassment claims using taxpayer dollars through the Office of Compliance.
The bipartisan letter has 15 cosigners, and was sent to Chairman Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) and Ranking Member Robert A. Brady (D-Penn.) on Friday afternoon.
Specifically, the letter asks that the Committee on House Administration work with the Office of Compliance to address the following requests:
- All sexual harassment settlements over $10,000 paid through the Office of Compliance be released to the public immediately. Specifically, information regarding the name of the perpetrator, the employing office of the perpetrator and the amount paid to the victim;
- The victim be permitted to remain anonymous in any sexual harassment settlement disclosures;
- The total amount of any sexual harassment-related settlement paid through the Office of Compliance since 1997 be released to the public without delay;
- Any future sexual harassment settlements be made public.
“American taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being spent,” said Grothman. “Releasing this information will increase government transparency for taxpayers, create a safer work environment in the legislative branch, and hold these perpetrators accountable for their actions.”
