WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, a member of the HELP Committee, today released the following statement on President Trump’s nomination of Alex Azar to be Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS):

“This is certainly not a drain the swamp pick from President Trump. The pharmaceutical industry has a deep-rooted and strong influence in Washington and there is already a revolving door between drug companies and the government, so I am troubled by this nomination. The American people must be able to trust that the head of the Department of Health and Human Services is working for them, not powerful Washington interests.” said Senator Baldwin. “Wisconsin families can’t afford to have another HHS Secretary sabotaging our health care markets and raising costs. As a member of the Senate HELP Committee, I expect him to address these concerns in our committee hearings.”
