OSHKOSH — U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) issued the following statement after President Donald Trump signed a health care executive order, which included an expansion of short-term, limited duration health insurance plans that Sen. Johnson has advocated:

“Obamacare is broken and hurting hard-working Americans every day through skyrocketing premiums and reduced consumer choice. Today’s executive action will help make insurance more accessible and affordable, including by expanding the availability of short-term, limited duration plans. I applaud the administration for taking this meaningful step toward legalizing affordable health insurance for the forgotten men and women of Obamacare.”

Earlier this year, Sen. Johnson led 14 senators in sending a letter to the Trump administration encouraging it to reverse Obama-era regulations that limit consumers’ ability to purchase short-term, limited duration insurance plans. These plans offer consumers a variety of health benefits and are another option for health coverage, but a recent regulation decreased the maximum policy length of short-term plans from 364 days to just 90 days.
