WASHINGTON, DC — On Wednesday, December 6th, hundreds of DACA recipients, immigrant families, and supporters from southeastern Wisconsin will join tens of thousands expected to join historic protests demanding Congress pass the Dream Act and relief for TPS-recipient families. The Wisconsin group will include dozens of constituents of US Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. Wisconsin’s delegation will arrive at the Upper Senate Park near the Capitol at 12pm EST. Wisconsinites will call for Speaker Ryan to pass the Dream Act before the end of this year as part of legislation to continue funding the federal government. The Wisconsin delegation will also urge Democrats to withhold their votes for any spending package that does not include the Dream Act.

“Our movement must continue to put pressure on both Republicans and Democrats to ensure that the clean Dream Act is included in federal spending legislation this year,” said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Executive Director of Voces de la Frontera. “That is the best vehicle to restore protections for DACA recipients. It’s up to us to make that happen, and we must continue to put pressure on members of both parties, or we will be sold out.”

“We are going to Washington because we need Congress and Speaker Ryan to pass the clean Dream Act today,” said Luis Tapia, a YES member, high school junior, and constituent of Speaker Ryan from Racine, Wisconsin. “My parents, myself, and all of us should feel safe. My dream is to finish school and become a math teacher. Congress and Speaker Ryan must pass the Dream Act before the end of this year so our families can be safe and so we can continue our dreams.”
