Polls are open in three special elections for primaries that will determine who’s on the ballot next month to fill open Assembly seats in Racine and Washington County, along with northwestern Wisconsin’s 10th SD.
In the 10th, GOP Reps. Adam Jarchow, of Balsam Lake, and Shannon Zimmerman, of River Falls, square off. On the Dem side, there’s a three-way primary. Patty Schachtner, the St. Croix County medical examiner, is the preferred candidate of Senate Dems. She faces John Calabrese, a self-employed wood worker, and Reuben Herfindahl, who owns an IT services firm.
In the heavily GOP 58th, four candidates are vying for the Republican nomination: Rick Gundrum, a Village of Slinger trustee who’s served on the Washington County Board for the past 12 years; legislative aide Tiffany Koehler, who ran for the seat in 2014; Steve Stanek, who owns a hazardous waste transportation and environmental consulting business; and Spencer Zimmerman, a chauffeur and flight line technician.
The winner will face Dem Dennis Degenhardt, the former president and CEO of Glacier Hills Credit Union, in the Jan. 16 general election.
In the 66th, the winner of the Dem primary will be unopposed on the January ballot. Greta Neubauer, who was an aide to outgoing Rep. Cory Mason, faces Racine Ald. John Tate II.
