Gov. Scott Walker Friday called for a special session of the Legislature to commence on Tuesday to consider the state’s $3 billion incentive package for Foxconn.

The announcement included a single sweeping bill that laid out the creation of a new Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation tax credit, roughly $250 million in potential bonds for the I-94 north-south project if federal dollars are received and special provisions for certain tax increment finance districts, among other things.

The guv said during a stop in Wausau earlier Friday he expected the special session of the Legislature to approve the Foxconn incentive package within “the next couple of weeks.”

He said he wasn’t sure whether the budget or special session would be completed first, but said it’s likely to be “pretty close to parallel” timing.

Joint Finance Committee members Sen. Tom Tiffany, R-Hazelhurst, and Rep. Mary Felzkowski, R-Irma, who were also with Walker at the Wausau stop, said they expected the incentive package to easily pass.

“Yes, I think it will sail right through,” Felzkowksi said.

Meanwhile, Sen. Van Wanggaard, R-Racine, thanked Walker for including funding for the I-94 north-south project in the bill.

“Even more than before, it is absolutely critical to restart this road project to ensure the success of not just Foxconn, but the many other economic development opportunities that are planning to come our area,” he said in a statement.
