MADISON, WI – Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin today called on lawmakers to approve AB 384, a measure that would require the re-adoption of government rules every seven years under a rigorous review process. AFP-WI had been encouraging legislators to sign on as cosponsors ahead of today’s hearing in the State Assembly Committee on Regulatory Licensing Reform.

“With the REINS Act now the law of the land and onerous new red tape proposals excluded from the state budget, 2017 is truly shaping up to be a banner year for regulatory improvements in Wisconsin” said AFP-WI State Director Eric Bott. “The regulatory sunset bill is another prime opportunity for lawmakers to continue to show they are serious about cutting red tape to create jobs, grow our economy and attract new business investment. Our activists urge legislators to approve this common sense measure and send it to Governor Walker’s desk swiftly.”

On behalf of AFP-WI’s base of over 130,000 grassroots activists, Bott thanked Chairman Cody Horlacher, Vice Chair Joan Ballweg and the Committee on Regulatory Licensing Reform for holding today’s hearing.

Bott also thanked the measure’s Assembly co-authors, Majority Leader Jim Steineke, and Reps. Zimmerman, Allen, Brandtjen, Brooks, Duchow, Felzkowski, Gannon, Horlacher, Hutton, Jarchow, Katsma, Kleefisch, Knodl, Kooyenga, Kremer, Kuglitsch, Kulp, Murphy, Neylon, Ripp, Rohrkaste, Schraa, Spiros, Tauchen, Thiesfeldt, Tusler, Vorpagel and Weatherston.

Background:

As Joint Committee on Finance Co-Chair Senator Alberta Darling noted in her written testimony for SB 295, “Wisconsin currently has 1,967 chapters of code containing 12,812 pages of regulations. Over time, regulations become outdated and harmful to both individual freedom and economic productivity.”
