MADISON, Wis. – The next Airman Experience at the 115th Fighter Wing is scheduled to be held on base March 31.

Individuals interested in joining the unit are invited to see various career fields first-hand that day from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

“This is one of our two major recruiting events each year,” said Maj. Kristen Gibson, 115 FW Force Support Squadron commander. “We open our doors to citizens who are interested in joining our unit and give them an inside look at our mission. It is the only recruiting event that all units on base take part in, to ensure their mission is highlighted, to get the interest of potential new Airmen.”

Recruiters spend a lot of time at local schools, but visiting schools does not give the potential recruits a chance to see the Air National Guard up-close.

“The Airman Experience allows those who are interested a chance to see the base for themselves,” said Brandon Lutz, 115 FW recruiter. “Those who attend get a chance to talk to the Airmen they may work with in the future. They have the opportunity to ask as many questions as they’d like, and if they bring their parents, then they also have a chance to see what their son or daughter could be a part of.”

This event is not the only one recruiters hold throughout the year. They are continuously seeking ways to reach potential recruits in the community.

“There are always people retiring or choosing other paths in life after completing their enlistments,” Lutz said. “By continuing to recruit, we can ensure we always have our positions filled so we can be the best possible asset to our state and nation at all times.”

Individuals who attend the March 31 event can expect to tour multiple areas on base, meet and greet base personal, including the wing commander, and get to have their photo taken by an F-16 Fighting Falcon.

“This event has been extremely successful in the past,” Lutz said. “We hope to have an even stronger turnout this round and give more people a chance to see the amazing work our Airmen do here at Truax Field. This is an organization I’m proud to be a part of, and I know others would be too.”
