Wisconsin Historical Society: Celebrate Independence Day at Old World Wisconsin

Eagle, Wis. – Celebrate the spirit of the Fourth of July as they did in 19^th-century America at the Old World Wisconsin Independence Day Celebration.  Voted one of the top Fourth of July Parades in “US Travel + Leisure Magazine”, this day-long event is fun and family-friendly.

“This Independence Day Celebration provides guests the opportunity to travel back in time to take part in a grand and historic event like those of small towns in the 19th century,” said Dan Freas, site director at Old World Wisconsin.  “Guests can enjoy a true slice of Americana as they watch the old-fashioned parade through the village.”

The day will include living history presentations, games, and patriotic activities.  Guests can try climbing the greased pole for a prize, hand crank ice cream, enter the pie eating contest, and test their muscles in a tug of war competition.  Along with these multiple hands-on activities, an old-fashioned parade through the village will culminate the event on Tuesday, July 4.  In addition to Independence Day activities, one of several historic beer brewing demonstrations happening this summer will also be held on Tuesday, July 4.  The featured guest brewer that day is the Explorium Brew Pub.  Enjoy a cold brew while learning more about Wisconsin’s rich brewing history.

Admission to Old World Wisconsin is free to military veterans during this event.  The standard price of admission for Old World Wisconsin will apply all weekend: Wisconsin Historical Society members receive free admission to Old World Wisconsin and all 12 sites; adults (18-64) $19; children (5-17) $10; seniors (65 & older) $16; family pass (up to 2 adults and all children up to age 17) $50.
