Eagle, Wis. – For one week in July, Old World Wisconsin will transform into the World of Little House!  From July 22 – 30, journey back to Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House in the Big Woods as Old World Wisconsin celebrates the 150th Anniversary of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s birth here in Wisconsin.
“Little House in the Big Woods has inspired millions of people around the world to learn more about Wisconsin, history and Laura’s adventures since it was first published in 1932,” said Dan Freas, site director at Old World Wisconsin.  “As part of the week-long event, we will also be announcing the winners of our “Little House Big Story” contest.”
The “Little House Big Story” contest encouraged people from all over the nation (youth and adult) to submit their own story of how Laura Ingalls Wilder inspired them.  On July 22, a panel of expert judges will select one winner from each category.
During the World of Little House event, activities mentioned in the Little House stories come to life through fun, hands-on programs for the entire family.  From the moment you arrive and climb into the covered wagon, you’ll know it’s a day to celebrate all things Little House.  Highlights and new experiences include:
  • A chance to meet “Laura” as portrayed by Actress Jessica Michna
  • A special Ingalls family scavenger hunt
  • Dress up like Ma
  • Create your very own Calling Card
  • Play the traditional games that Laura or Almanzo Wilder would have played
  • Take part in helping with Laura’s chores
This event is sponsored by Old World Foundation, funding Old World Wisconsin with stewardship and integrity since 1984.  Wisconsin Historical Society members receive free admission to Old World Wisconsin and all 12 sites.  The standard price of admission for Old World Wisconsin will apply all weekend: adults (18-64) $19; children (5-17) $10; seniors (65 & older) $16.  Fees include an all-day tram transportation pass.  Parking is free.  All events will be held during Old World Wisconsin’s normal operating hours 10 am – 5 pm.
