Milwaukee, Wis. – Madisen Maher Architects, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin have received the 2017 Historic Restoration Award from the Wisconsin Historical Society for successfully converting the four buildings that comprise River Place Lofts – The Historic Beam House into a 64-unit apartment complex.  These buildings were originally constructed between 1871 and 1874 for use as a tannery. Afterwards, the buildings stood vacant for many years and were heavily damage by fire in 2001.
Each year, Society’s governing Board of Curators recognizes individuals and organizations for meritorious work in areas relating to the Society’s mission.  The Board of Curators is made up of thirty-seven elected and appointed members from across the state.  The Board approved the awards at its May 13, 2017 meeting in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
“This year’s Board of Curators Award recipients have each played a crucial role in shaping and documenting our state’s rich history and are receiving the highest recognition presented by the Wisconsin Historical Society,” said Ellsworth Brown, the Ruth and Hartley Barker Director for the Wisconsin Historical Society. “Architects, archivists, authors, librarians and museum professionals have made outstanding contributions to a better understanding of Wisconsin’s history and values.”
