Gubernatorial Candidate Backtracks on Historic Funding Plan Despite Early Support
[Madison, WI]—Today, the state Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee moved forward with Governor Walker’s plan to provide historic levels of funding to Wisconsin’s K-12 schools. In fact, state schools Superintendent Tony Evers made a series of statements praising the plan, even calling it a “pro-kid budget – before he entered the race for governor and started pandering to his liberal base. Evers had it right the first time, and this plan ensures that Wisconsin students have the resources needed to succeed.
“We applaud Governor Walker and Republican leaders on their commitment to student success,” said Mark Morgan, Executive Director of the Republican Party of Wisconsin.  “It’s disappointing that Madison bureaucrat Tony Evers is flip-flopping on his support for historic funding for our students and using the issue as a political prop in the Democrat primary. Wisconsin students and hard-working families deserve a bright future, and Governor Walker is fighting hard for their priorities.”
