RACINE – Wisconsin Working Families Party has endorsed Cory Mason in his race for Racine mayor. Citing the state legislator’s record of support for public schools and higher wages for workers, the Wisconsin Working Families Party will support Mason by putting feet to the street to educate voters about Mason’s record and progressive vision for Racine. The mayoral primary is September 19 and the general election is October 17.
An avid supporter of public education, Mason is fighting against Republican state lawmakers’ attempt to segregate Racine’s schools, creating a system of separate and unequal education for area students. As mayor, Cory Mason is committed to creating a $15 minimum wage for all municipal employees and contractors doing business with the city.
“Racine deserves a mayor who has both a record and a vision to move the city forward. Cory is the only candidate in the race with elected experience at the state level who is standing up for our values and supporting more resources for local governments” said Marina Dimitrijevic, executive director of Wisconsin Working Families Party. “We’re standing with Cory Mason because he will fight every day for a brighter future for Racine families. Whether it’s education, wages, equity, or justice, Cory Mason will be a strong force for progressive change.”
“I’m running for mayor because our generation cannot and will not be the last in Racine to achieve the American dream,” said Cory Mason. “Support from the Wisconsin Working Families Party is meaningful because of our shared values. They are a political force moving policies that matter to Racine residents, like fighting for $15 and a union, for immigrants and against bigotry, and for excellent public education for every student. I am committed to ensuring a fair shot for all Racine residents to succeed as we continue the renaissance in our neighborhoods. I am honored to have the Wisconsin Working Families Party’s support.”
A lifelong Racine resident, Mason has represented Racine in the Wisconsin State Legislature since 2006. In the Assembly, Mason serves on the Committee on Environment and Forestry, Committee on Tourism, the Joint Legislative Council, and the Joint Survey Committee on Retirement Systems. He is the chair of the Great Lakes Legislative Caucus and serves on several other environmental boards. Along with Wisconsin Working Families Party, Mason has been endorsed by UAW Region 4, AFT Local 212, and others.
Wisconsin Working Families Party is the state affiliate of the Working Families Party, a national political organization that is recruiting, training, and electing the next generation of progressive leaders to office. WFP wins so far this year include the Democratic primary victory of Philadelphia’s next District Attorney Larry Krasner, helping elect the new Mayor of Jackson, MS, Chokwe Lumumba, a sweep of school board races in Milwaukee, and special election victories for progressive leaders running for state legislature in New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
