MT. PLEASANT, WI OCTOBER 3, 2018 – Local grassroots organization, A Better Mt. Pleasant, announces “Run NEXT for Mount Pleasant” a community wide effort to recruit and encourage candidates to run for local office in April, 2019.

“As our community changes, so should our representatives at village hall,” says Kelly Gallaher, spokesperson for the group. “The residents of Mt. Pleasant deserve leaders willing to be accountable to the people as their first priority. We want to encourage new, exceptional trustee candidates to step forward and lead our village.”

A Better Mt. Pleasant will hold a candidate information session on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, beginning at 6:30 pm at Mt. Pleasant Village Hall. Topics will include the process for candidate registration, getting on the ballot and trustee responsibilities. Several former Mt. Pleasant Village Trustees will give an overview of village committees and commissions and answer questions.

“We know there are smart, qualified men and women in our community who are concerned about a variety of issues which affect us all as residents,” says Gallaher. “Our hope is to inspire new leaders dedicated to greater transparency, financial integrity and environmental oversight as our village grows.”

There will be four trustee positions on the April ballot, including Village President. Village trustees serve for a term of two years and receive a stipend for their service. The Village Board of Trustees meets regularly twice a month and trustees serve on various committees.

Candidates for local office must file in early January to run in April.

“Becoming an elected official not a small commitment and we know people will need to take some time and think about it. That is why we are starting early.” Gallaher continues, “a willingness to learn and to ask questions is a great start. This is an opportunity to shape the future of our community.”

Residents interested in attending the candidate information meeting on November 14, 2018 are asked to pre-register at or go to the Run NEXT Facebook page at or search @runnext4mountpleasant
