Statement from ABC on Assembly Workforce Development bills

MADISON, WI – Statement from John Mielke, president of Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin on the latest Assembly Workforce Development Committee measures, which passed the panel today (Tuesday):

“On behalf of our more than 870 construction employer members in Wisconsin, I would like to thank Chairman Petryk and the Committee members who supported Rep. Krug’s AB 124, Rep. Stafsholt’s AB 734 and Rep. Quinn’s AB 745.  These very sensible initiatives will help address the skills gap and provide more access for Wisconsinites interested in highly-skilled, family-sustaining construction careers.”

AB 124: Allows apprenticeship programs and other technical training opportunities to be marketed to students who drop out of the UW system.

AB 734:  Treats apprenticeship tuition the same way as college tuition for income tax deduction purposes.

AB 745:  Allows high school seniors to start in the adult apprenticeship program, thereby allowing them to complete the program sooner.
