RACINE, WI – Today, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM) announced their endorsement of congressional candidate Randy Bryce in his race to represent Wisconsin’s First Congressional District. Bryce is running to replace House Speaker Paul Ryan.

“On behalf of its millions of members and supporters, including 4,300 in Wisconsin’s First Congressional District, NCPSSM enthusiastically endorses Randy Bryce’s candidacy,” said Max Richtman, President and CEO. “Randy has experienced personally that Medicare is crucial to the health of older Americans, many of whom cannot afford higher out-of-pocket costs that Paul Ryan and others in Congress are calling for as a way of reducing the deficit and paying for the recently enacted $1.5 trillion tax giveaway to corporations and the wealthiest among us. Randy believes that Social Security’s modest retirement benefits are earned and that promise to our retirees should never be broken.”

Earlier this week, Bryce formally unveiled his economic agenda, which included protecting and expanding Social Security as well as passing Medicare for All. Bryce specifically believes the FICA cap should be raised, so that the wealthy people are doing their part to make our Social Security System sustainable. Bryce also opposes the systemic closure of Social Security offices across the country. Additionally, Bryce supports adding vision, dental and hearing services as covered benefits under Medicare.  In contrast,  Speaker Ryan said just two weeks ago that he is actively pursuing so-called “entitlement reform.”

“Social Security and Medicare are the reason my Mom can afford the nearly twenty different prescriptions she needs to manage her M.S., and they’re the reason she can have the financial freedom and mobility to visit my Dad, who was diagnosed many years ago with Alzheimer’s,” said Bryce. “So when Paul Ryan said he was going after them again so that billionaires could have a tax break, it wasn’t even a question, I was running to defeat him and protect and expand those programs. It is a true honor to have the endorsement of NCPSSM, and I thank their members for their support, from the bottom of my heart.”
