DBA: Endorses Schimel for re-election
Dairy group cites attorney general’s work against regulatory overreach

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Dairy Business Association today announced its support for state Atty. Gen. Brad Schimel in his re-election bid to be Wisconsin’s top legal official for a second term.

Since becoming attorney general in 2015, Schimel has focused on ensuring predictability and stability in the state’s regulatory environment, which is essential for a healthy dairy community, Mike North, DBA’s president, said.

Schimel was elected to the statewide position in 2014 after serving as the Waukesha County district attorney for eight years. He began his career in public service in 1990 as an assistant district attorney with the county. Schimel earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

“Attorney General Schimel’s record demonstrates his understanding of the importance of a predictable, transparent regulatory system to our dairy community,” North said. “Farmers and business owners must operate by the laws on the books; our regulators need to do the same, and he gets that.”

“We are confident that Mr. Schimel will continue to fight against overreach by state and federal agencies so farms and other businesses in Wisconsin have the ability to be successful,” North said.

The attorney general serves as the head of the Wisconsin Department of Justice, and the position is up for election every four years. This fall’s election is Nov. 6.
