MADISON — With four days left until Election Day, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin is continuing to count down a “Worst Of” list of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir‘s career-long record of selling out Wisconsin to enrich her insurance industry and corporate special interest backers.

#4. Vukmir Sold Out Deaf Children On Cochlear Implants And Hearing Aid Coverage

In 2009, Leah Vukmir sided with insurance companies over deaf children, voting against requiring insurers to cover kids’ hearing aids and cochlear implants.

Vukmir’s opposition to the measure aligned her with the insurance companies that lobbied against the bill, and Vukmir even used their same talking points, arguing that it was just too expensive to require insurance companies to cover Wisconsin kids’ hearing aids and cochlear implants. Vukmir even claimed, “People are losing their jobs, the cost of health care is increasing, and you’re just going to add to it.”

During her campaign for U.S. Senate, Vukmir has proudly defended opposing coverage for kids’ hearing aids and cochlear implants, despite facing criticismfor her record of siding with insurance companies over kids.
