(Milwaukee) – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Matt Flynn today supported students walking out to protest gun violence in the wake of the recent shooting in Parkland, Florida with the following statement.

“The Parkland shooting was a terrible tragedy, and a tragedy we have seen all too often. I support the young people who use their voices to create change. It is their strength and conviction that gives us hope for the future.

“Americans have a Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. But students should be safe in schools.

“The majority of Wisconsinites support sensible gun safety reforms, including universal background checks and a ban on military-style assault weapons. As a veteran, I know the power of these weapons, and they don’t belong in civilian society. It is time to get serious because these tragedies keep happening, and they don’t have to.”
