Gov. Walker: Approves contract to reconstruct Sun Prairie intersection

MADISON  Governor Scott Walker today approved a $1,024,860 emergency contract to reconstruct WIS 19/Main Street intersection in Sun Prairie, which was damaged by the natural gas explosion on July 10, 2018. Governor Walker declared a State of Emergency as a result of the damage on July 20, 2018.

“Rebuilding this intersection is important to helping Sun Prairie recover from the devastation and loss caused by July’s explosion,” said Governor Walker. “Firsthand I saw the damage from the July 10 explosion and subsequent fire which severely damaged buildings, roads and utilities in the community’s downtown area. The destruction resulted in loss of life, displaced numerous residents, and closed businesses. Approving this contract is a major step in Sun Prairie’s recovery—we are all a part of #SunPrairieStrong.”

Work is expected to begin early next week. Construction will be coordinated with Sun Prairie’s recovery efforts and is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Ptaschinski Construction of Beaver Dam is the primary contractor. The project includes new concrete pavement, curb, gutter and sidewalk replacement. Other improvements include new traffic signals and decorative lighting. Crews will also replace underground utilities.
