MADISON – Governor Scott Walker released the following statement today in honor of Flag Day, a tradition which began in Waubeka, Wisconsin on July 14, 1885. Flag Day was nationally recognized by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916, and June 14th has been recognized as Flag Day nationally ever since.
The American flag is a symbol of our freedom. It represents the strength of our nation, the brave men and women who have and who continue to fight for our nation, and their sacrifices. It is part of our history and it stands as a beacon of hope and democracy. Today and every day, we see our flags proudly flying throughout our communities.
