Governor Walker Discusses the Opioid Epidemic
at Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs Conference

MADISON – Governor Scott Walker visited with sheriffs and deputy sheriffs from across the state today to discuss the opioid epidemic at the Wisconsin Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs Annual Winter Conference.

“Our sheriffs and deputy sheriffs are an invaluable asset in combatting the opioid crisis because they are on the frontlines seeing its destruction every day,” said Governor Walker. “We are working with our officers and other community leaders to continue creating and passing legislation that helps combat this crisis. Thank you to our law enforcement for their tireless effort to prevent this epidemic from hurting more Wisconsin families.”

In January, the Governor issued two executive orders which instructed numerous state agencies to adopt the Task Force on Opioid Abuse recommendations to improve awareness and prevention and also created the Governor’s Commission on Substance Abuse Treatment Delivery. These actions build upon the 28 bipartisan bills the Governor has signed known as the Heroin, Opioid Prevention, and Education (HOPE) agenda.
