WAUKESHA – Governor Scott Walker discussed Wisconsin’s historically low unemployment rate of 2.9 percent and strong economy today at the Pewaukee Chamber of Commerce.
“Wisconsin’s economy is booming, and we have more people working than ever before,” said Governor Walker. “Our unemployment rate is 2.9 percent – that’s an all-time low. And, more businesses, like Trico Corporation and TLX Technologies, LLC., here in Pewaukee, are choosing to expand creating more jobs for hardworking Wisconsinites. Over the last eight years, 39 businesses have promised to expand, open their doors, or create new jobs here in Waukesha County. This is real growth. Clearly, Wisconsin is open for business.”
Wisconsin’s preliminary unemployment rate for February 2018 reached a record low of 2.9 percent, the previous record-low state unemployment rate of 3.0 percent was reached in May, June, and July 1999. The state’s unemployment rate sits 1.2 percentage points lower than the national unemployment rate of 4.1 percent.
Wisconsin also reached a record high for the number of people employed in the state, with 3,068,200 people employed, while the state’s total civilian labor force also reached a record-setting level, with 3,161,000 people considered actively employed or actively pursuing employment and part of the state’s labor force.
