MADISON – Governor Scott Walker today visited Mills Fleet Farm in Wausau and Shopko in Eau Claire to encourage every eligible parent to apply before midnight for the $100 Per-Child Tax Rebate. The deadline for all eligible families to apply is 11:59 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2018.
“We want every eligible Wisconsin family to apply for their $100 Per- Child Tax Rebate tonight before midnight,” said Governor Walker. “More than half-a-million families have already applied, but we don’t want any families to be left out because an extra $100 per child could really make a difference going into the next school year.”
Anyone who is a resident of the State of Wisconsin is eligible to receive $100 for every dependent child living at home under the age of 18 as of December 31, 2017. Those who claim the rebate will receive the money before school starts this fall and have the option to receive it through a check in the mail or direct deposit.
There will also be a Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday from August 1 – 5, 2018. This means the state sales tax will not be charged for those days on school supplies where each item is $75 or less, clothing where each item is $75 or less, computers where each item is $750 or less, and computer supplies where each item is $250 or less.
Both the $100 Child Sales Tax Rebate and the August Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday are a result of additional surplus dollars. This tax rebate is in addition to more than $8 billion in overall tax relief since Governor Walker took office.
