MADISON – This afternoon, Governor Scott Walker signed AB 532, the Public Service Commission (PSC) Reform Act, at the Wisconsin Energy Providers Conference. This bill protects the safety of workers, first responders, and the public, while also reducing red tape and eliminating outdated requirements.

“We are creating a safer working environment for Wisconsin workers, first responders, and families through the Public Service Commission Reform Act,” said Governor Walker. “This legislation also works to cut unnecessary fees and requirements which furthers our promise to cut red tape in state government.”

AB532 requires Digger’s Hotline to create a panel to review complaints. The PSC will have the authority to investigate complaints as well as enforce compliance. The bill also requires excavators to report the discovery of flammable, toxic or corrosive gas to emergency authorities which will create a safer environment for Wisconsin workers. This legislation transfers specific statutory authority on energy-related materials from the Department of Administration to the Public Service Commission.
