MADISON –Governor Scott Walker visited Milwaukee, Green Bay, Wausau, and La Crosse today to discuss his newly proposed Child Tax Credit for Wisconsin families. As originally proposed in Wednesday’s State of the State Address, families across the state would receive a check in the mail this year for $100 for every child under age 18 living at home. This refundable Child Tax Credit would be created for 2018 and beyond.
“Due to our successful reforms over the years, we have an even larger budget surplus than we originally planned for,” said Governor Walker. “You deserve to share in the success of our state. So, as promised, we’re reinvesting this Reform Dividend in Wisconsin’s families and hardworking taxpayers. Now families will have extra money to work with to purchase new coats and shoes for the kids, buy school supplies, or pay for school activities.”

Wisconsin finished this past fiscal year with a more than half-billion-dollar surplus, and the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau recently announced that the current state budget is expected to end with an even larger than expected surplus.

The tax cut is estimated at $122.1 million per year, adding up to a nearly quarter-billion-dollar tax cut for families in the 2017-19 biennial budget.
