MADISON — Following President Trump and the Republican leadership’s decision to kill any bipartisan deals to protect Dreamers in the Senate, iAmerica Action launched a six figure ad buy in 27 house districts to hold Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (WI-01) and his Republican colleagues accountable for their failure to protect Dreamers and their support for efforts to gut our country’s immigration laws.
The ads will target Representatives Denham (CA-10), Knight (CA-25), Valadao (CA-21), Walters (CA-45), Coffman (CO-06), Tipton (CO-03), Curbelo (FL-26), Mast (FL-18), Bost (IL-12), Rodney Davis (IL-13), Roskam (IL-06), Yoder (KS-03), Paulsen (MN-03), Bacon (NE-02), Lance (NJ-07), MacArthur (NJ-03), Donovan (NY-11), Faso (NY-19), Katko (NY-24), Costello (PA-06), Fitzpatrick (PA-08), Smucker (PA-16), Hurd (TX-23), Sessions (TX-32), Comstock (VA-10), and Herrera Beutler (WA-03), and Speaker of the House Ryan (WI-01).
Over 80% of the American people want Congress to pass a law that puts American Dreamers on a clear path to full citizenship. Americans by large margins oppose the Trump administration’s xenophobic view of immigration, and see immigrants as vital to our nation’s economy. The Center for American Progress estimates that passing the Dream Act would add a total of $22.7 billion annually to the GDP.
Americans are also increasingly put off by the divisive and frequent racist attacks on immigrants and their families coming out of the White House and increasingly others in the Republican party. Such attacks are at odds with a nation proud of its immigrant roots.
According to iAmerica Action President Rocio Sáenz, “While the fight is about protecting young Americans who live here, work here, go to school here, and pay taxes, at its core it’s about something far greater. Will we become an isolated nation that fears outsiders? Or continue with a rich tradition of welcoming immigrants who help make our country innovative and more competitive. After the White House-Republican leadership collusion to sink the bipartisan Dreamer deal, it’s clear that our work is far from over.”
