GOP Rep. Samantha Kerkman today announced she’s running for re-election in the 61st AD, passing on a bid for Speaker Paul Ryan’s seat.

“I want to use my experience and knowledge to continue to lay the groundwork at the state level which attracts jobs and investment in Kenosha County,” she said in a statement this afternoon.

The Salem Republican is the latest potential GOP candidate to decline a bid for the 1st CD. State Sen. Dave Craig most recently announced he wouldn’t run, joining Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and others in deciding against a campaign.

Bryon Steil, a UW regent and attorney, is considering a bid, and former Racine County Exec. Jim Ladwig’s name has been floated.
