Caledonia, WI – Today, John Leiber announced his candidacy for the 62nd Assembly District, which includes Caledonia, Raymond, Norway, Wind Point, North Bay, some northern and western parts of the city of Racine, and a small part of Mt. Pleasant.

“As a fourth generation member of the Racine area community, I want to keep Wisconsin moving forward,” said Leiber. “We need to grow our future by improving our transportation funding, promoting fiscal responsibility, and building our economy.  Racine County is at the beginning of a new era, and I will hit the ground running and devote my full attention to serving the district.”

Leiber graduated from UW-Parkside with a degree in history and worked as a legislative aide for four years in the state legislature. He served three years as President of the Caledonia Parks and Recreation Commission and a year as a commissioner on the Housing Authority of Racine County.  “The Racine area has a tradition of strong representation and I’m eager to work on behalf of the 62nd,” Leiber said. “Now, more than ever, we need a strong voice in Madison.”

Thomas Weatherston, the current representative for the district, has announced that he will not seek re-election. “I want to thank Tom for his service to our county and our state and I wish him the best in retirement,” Leiber stated.

The primary election for the 62nd Assembly District will be held on August 14, 2018. The general election will be held on November 6, 2018.
